Cancer Fund’s Annual Stride for a Cure Walkathon is Cancelled

Participants can still support by completing the walk on their own time and donating to the organisation.

(Hong Kong –2 December 2019) After careful consideration, the Hong Kong Cancer Fund has decided to cancel the annual Stride for a Cure walkathon this year, which was to take place on December 8, 2019 (Sunday).

More than 2,000 participants and volunteers were expected to be at Stride for a Cure. However, due to the recent social movement and upcoming events, it is anticipated that traffic and transportation will be affected on the day.

Participants can still continue to support local cancer research and Cancer Fund’s free care services by raising the minimum $600 sponsorship fee and completing the walk at a time and place of their choosing. Alternatively they could also arrange for a refund of their registration and sponsorship fees.

Sally Lo, Founder and Chief Executive of Cancer Fund said, “We are devastated by the decision to cancel the event. This year marks the 24th anniversary of our Stride for a Cure that brings together our cancer survivors, donors, supporters, medical professionals, social workers and volunteers. But we understand that the safety of our participants, staff and volunteers must come first. We are facing a most difficult fundraising climate this year, but we will continue to offer free professional services to those in great need. I hope everyone will continue their support by sending in their sponsorships and donations.”

Participants can email Cancer Fund at [email protected] or call 3667 6333 for enquiries (Office hours: Mon to Fri 9-6pm). Or go to their website to learn more about the cancellation arrangements: https://www.cancer-fund.org/sfc/en/cancellation-arrangement-2019/
