Primary examinations
Pelvic Exam
Your doctor inspects the outer portion of your genitals, and then inserts two fingers into your vagina to feel your cervix and uterus. A speculum will be used to open your vagina so that your doctor can view any vaginal or cervical abnormalities.
Endometrial biopsy
Doctor inserts a flexible tube with the help of a speculum to remove tissue from your uterine lining for microscopic analysis.
Transvaginal ultrasound, TVU
A transducer is inserted into your vagina. Your doctor can then look for abnormalities in your vagina, uterus, oviducts and ovaries from the ultrasound image.
Hysteroscopy and biopsy
Doctor inserts a thin, lighted tube through your vagina and cervix into your uterus. The lens on the hysteroscope allows your doctor to examine your uterus and take out tissue samples for further pathological study.
Dilation and Curettage, D&C
D&C is an accurate method to diagnose corpus uteri cancer. You are given anaesthesia, and then your doctor will remove tissue samples from different spots of the uterus. The tissue sample is then assessed.
Further examinations
Computerised Tomography, CT Scan
Radiographer takes x-rays from different angles of your pelvis. A special dye may be injected into your vein for a better image to highlight specific areas.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI
An MRI can produce a detailed and clear image of soft tissue near the pelvis, e.g. lymph nodes, endometrium and myometrium.
