What are the causes of corpus uteri cancer?
At the moment, the exact cause of corpus uteri cancer is not known. We do know a number of factors can increase your risk of developing the condition, including:
women over the age of 60, especially for post-menopausal women
women who have not given birth to children
obesity, especially post-menopausal women with abdominal obesity
women receiving oestrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT), or on HRT after menopause
women with a prior diagnosis or with family history of breast cancer, ovarian cancer or colorectal cancer
women with polycystic ovary syndrome
women with endometrial hyperplasia
women with diabetes or with “3-Highs” (high blood pressure, high blood glucose and high cholesterol)
Symptoms of corpus uteri cancer
Early symptoms are not as obvious since other ill health conditions can cause the same symptoms.
unusual vaginal discharge e.g. bleeding in between normal periods or after menopause
Symptoms become more detectable at a later stage:
pain during intercourse or urinating
a mass can be felt in the lower abdomen
