The Magic of Giving Comes Alive with Cancer Fund’s Charity Gala – MACUMBA!

Earmarked as one of the city’s best social and charitable events of the year, Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s annual party for a purpose took place on 26 February 2010, entitled MACUMBA.

Held at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, almost 500 loyal supporters and friends came together in helping to raise HK$5million towards Cancer Fund’s free and on-going cancer support services.

Principal Sponsor of the 2010 Gala was Swiss private banking group Julius Baer.

Andrea Benenati, Julius Baer's CEO of North Asia said: “We are proud to continue for a consecutive year to commit ourselves to the community and applaud the tireless efforts made by the Hong Kong Cancer Fund to overcome this terrible disease. Care, Passion, and Excellence are values admired and firmly embedded at Julius Baer. As a leading dedicated private bank, we believe in the strength of wealth management and financial protection that can help create a bright future. This rewarding nexus between our support and making a real difference gives a sense of satisfaction that is shared by everyone at Julius Baer.”

Cancer Fund’s party for a purpose recreated the magic of Africa with tribal drums, exotic dancers, and musical performances by singing sensation Jennifer Jones, who flew in especially from South Africa.  Guests wore exotic attire as the dress code was ‘Be Wild – Black & Gold’.

Among the 500 guests and loyal patrons who attended this tribal soiree included: Pansy Ho, Sabrina Ho Chiu-Ying, Coco Lee, Kathy Chiu, Betty da Silva, Gaile Lai, Lynn Xiong, Dee Poon, Sherman Chung Shu-Man, William Chan Wai-Ting, Yumi Honda, Barney Cheng, Simon & Daisy Ho, Ming Ho, Bonnie Gokson, Andrew & Yvette Yuen, Kai Yin Lo, Charles Yang; as well as distinguished guests, HSH Princess Ira von Furstenberg.

Adding to the evening’s wow factor were a host of incredible auction prizes, some of which include: exquisite diamond/ruby earrings donated by luxury jeweller Moussaieff; an incredible safari experience given by Singita Game Reserves; a bespoke watch box from Louis Vuitton; and limited edition yellow label Jeroboams from French champagne house, Veuve Clicquot.

Mrs. Sally Lo, Chairman of the Cancer Fund, said: “We’re exceptionally privileged to receive such overwhelming support from loyal sponsors and friends; particularly Julius Baer, Louis Vuitton, and our long-standing supporters, Grosvenor and The Advantage Trust.

The Cancer Fund relies solely on public generosity to sustain our network of support, enabling us to help make life better for people by addressing all aspects of living with cancer.

With the help of our friends, Hong Kong Cancer Fund continues to strive towards cancer care excellence, ensuring no one faces cancer alone.  We’re proud to be a truly valuable resource to the community.”
