Cancer Fund commemorates a new milestone in cancer care excellence with the unveiling of a renovated oncology outpatient clinic at Queen Mary Hospital

Hong Kong Cancer Fund commemorated the unveiling of a new and improved Oncology Outpatient Clinic at Queen Mary Hospital in Pokfulam today, joined by sponsors and distinguished members of the medical community.
Funded by Hong Kong Cancer Fund, with HSBC Insurance as Principal Donor, the Oncology Outpatient Clinic of Queen Mary Hospital underwent a significant renovation and refurbishment to further improve the comfort and facilities for cancer patients attending this hospital.
The Oncology Outpatient Clinic of Queen Mary Hospital received new interiors by way of seating, lighting, doors, fixtures and furnishings. It serves 300 cancer patients every day.
Sally Lo, Chairman of Hong Kong Cancer Fund, expressed her enthusiasm at being able to make visits and consultations within Queen Mary’s hospital setting more pleasant for patients and their accompanying families: “The primary goal in improving hospital environments is to make patients feel more at ease and comfortable as they wait for appointments or treatment,” said Lo. Our efforts in the hospital, as well as other areas of our work reflect Cancer Fund’s overall mission, which is to make life better for people touched by cancer.
HSBC Insurance, Principal Sponsor of this capital project and staunch advocate of Cancer Fund's work, donated HK$1.6 million towards the renovation, having raised funds through their annual Charity Halloween Parade held in October 2008.
"We recognise the anxieties people experience when living with cancer and support Cancer Fund's efforts in helping to improve patients' quality of life, even if it is as simple as soothing people's emotions," said David Fried, Group General Manager and Regional Head of Insurance Asia-Pacific, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.
Dr. CK Chan, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive of Queen Mary Hospital, expressed his appreciation by saying, “This is a wonderful gift to the patients and those who accompany patients to the hospital. Being able to accommodate people in a warmer, more inviting setting makes the hospital environment less daunting and more comfortable. We extend our deepest appreciation to Hong Kong Cancer Fund and their principal sponsor, HSBC Insurance for helping to make the cancer experience in our hospital better than before.”
