4 February is World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day 2010, led by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), earmarks today (4 February) as World Cancer Day, in a bid to raise awareness of cancer prevention. Each year, over 12 million people receive a cancer diagnosis and 7.6million people die of the disease. The good news is that approximately 40% of cancers are potentially preventable. We invite you to join us in marking World Cancer Day by learning more about cancer, simple steps that can ensure prevention, or knowing how to ensure early detection.
The risk of developing cancer can significantly be reduced through simple measure such as:
- Stop tobacco use and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Avoid excessive sun exposure
- Maintain a healthy wait through healthy eating and regular exercise
- Protect against cancer-causing infections
- Undertaking health screenings suitable to your age, sex, and family medical history
