Have you ever thought of giving to help othersˇK but felt you have nothing to give?

When you leave a legacy, you give a gift from your belongings after you no longer need to use it. Usually, this gift is done through a will stating the asset that will be given to an individual or charity. Another easy way to leave a legacy is through your life insurance policy.

Since September 2005, the Life Underwriters Association, an association made up of Hong Kong's insurance agents and The Hong Kong Council of Social Services jointly organised a programme called the "LifeCare Movement" to encourage donations to be made through life insurance policies.

"LifeCare Movement" makes it a simple act to support charities, merely stating the charity as a beneficiary in your life insurance and the percentage to be donated, a new channel contributing to the stability of long-term funding for charities will be created. If you already have an insurance policy, simply contact your insurance agent, fill out the form and return it to your agent. It's that simple.

Many people think that only the rich can afford to give but you will be surprised that after providing for your loved ones, there will be assets left to give to causes you feel are important or which benefited you during your lifetime. Small amounts can make a big difference for charities.

Legacies do not have to be monetary. You can give property, stocks and shares.

How do I leave my 'Legacy'?

The earlier and better you plan your legacy, the greater the benefit will be to your family and to the cause or charity you wish to help. There are several ways to leave a Legacy:
Make a will to give part of your assets to a cause or charity
Name a charity as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy as part of the ˇ§LifeCare Movementˇ¨ programme.
A trust allows your family and dependents to benefit first from your assets whilst allowing the remaining to support those that need support

Make the effort to talk with your insurance agent, will writer or lawyer to advise you on how you should help others with your Legacy. Since September 2005, over 650 people have made charities as one of the beneficiaries in their life policies by joining the "LifeCare Movement" programme, with a total of over $40 million already earmarked for donations.
