Since its opening in January 1994, two patient self-help groups have evolved through the Centre, namely the Brightening Team for breast & gynaecological patients and the Rising Sun group for NPC patients. Informative talks, sharing sessions, ward visits, and interest groups are available to newly-diagnosed patients. Special programmes are also tailored to suit post-treatment as well as relapsed and terminal patients. There is also an on-site volunteer care team to provide peer support to patients.

The Centre was refurbished and relocated to the first floor of the East Block in 2008, and will be re-open in March.
