Teaching patients and families on self-help techniques is one of the core programmes at CancerLink Central. Patients can learn methods for relaxation, meditation and visualization which they can practice at home to help them manage the day-to-day challenges. This approach will also benefit close family and friends, giving them the tools they need to handle their own emotional distress so they too, can face cancer positively, and be ready to help their loved ones.

Self-care room
Some cancer types like breast cancer, prostate cancer or gynecological cancer, can be especially devastating than any other cancer. To help patients adjust to the physical changes and the mental distress, one-to-one personal care is offered to breast cancer patients. Professional carers will advise on home care skills, and a range of tools will be introduced to improve self-confidence and image, such as fitting prosthesis, use of wigs and ways to look and feel better. Specialist nurses will also talk about exercises to relieve lymphoedema, massage, meditation, and skills to improve sexual relationships, etc.
