Here at CancerLink, we understand the emotional, social and financial impact created by cancer. We understand the difficulties experienced by the body and certainly the anxiety experienced by the mind. Through sharing and peer support, the individual will often learn something beyond their illness: to truly value life, friendship and family, and most important of all, to develop a positive attitude towards life and oneself.
Seeing the urgent need for cancer supportive services outside the hospital setting, the first CancerLink Support Centre was established by Hong Kong Cancer Fund in 1997 in Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon. Since that time, it has grown steadily to meet the needs of cancer patients and families. This is the only community centre that works as a bridge between the Hong Kong Government agencies and the community to provide a comprehensive cancer care programme for people living with cancer. During the past ten years, CancerLink has become one of the most successful cancer support services in Hong Kong, leading 14 cancer patient support groups and serving the needs of thousands of patients in a year.
Information resources including our 33 information booklets, leaflets, DVD, VCD ,CD and other cancer information are available through the library, the internet and from experienced staff and trained volunteers. CancerLink Wong Tai Sin also operates the CancerLink Hotline to offer immediate emotional support and information to people in need. The hotline is manned six days a week by registered social workers and trained volunteers. Referrals to other social service agencies will be made where necessary and face-to-face counselling will be set up if required.
