Since 1993, Hong Kong Cancer Fund began sponsoring New Voice Club to conduct exchange tours to China to assist people who have undergone surgery in their larynx to regain their voice through the promotion of voice rehabilitation programmes, helping many people to speak again after being voiceless for decades. The meaningful expeditions foster self-help spirit by establishing and consolidating supporting networks for laryngectomees in the different cities.
Visits were paid to major cities including Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang, Changchun, Tianjin, Guangxi, Wuhan and Nancheong during the past ten years. These visits were highly successful and had a direct impact on local health care professionals, patients and their care givers. As a result two local rehabilitation groups were set up in Shanghai and Guangxi and the Wuhan Revoice Group was established in 2003. |
